How does your skin change in your 20s?

In your 20s your skin seems to be in a state of flux. Your hormones still fluctuate causing acne breakouts however, they are less severe than they were in your teens. During this time collagen production is at its peak and your skin will look its best, plump, more elastic, with more glow.

When you get to your mid-20s that production of collagen starts to slow and cell turnover slows down. This causes dead skin cells to accumulate on the face and starts to cause discoloration. With decreasing production of collagen, the skin starts to lose its elasticity. At this age, the skin can get thinner and lose some protection against UV rays.

What skin changes to expect when you turn 30?

When you reach your 30s your skin will start to reflect your age. This is when fine lines and wrinkles can become apparent around your mouth, eyes, and forehead. You will probably start to lose some of the volumes in your lips, under your eyes, and on your cheeks. Your complexion can begin to look a little dull starting in your 30s.

How do hormones affect the skin in your 40s?

Your hormone levels will have started dropping off in your 30s. When you reach your 40s, you will continue to have hormone changes. Estrogen levels drop at menopause. This is natural for women between the ages of 40 and 55 and causes some noticeable skin changes. You will likely start to see skin dryness, deeper wrinkles, loss of structure, age spots, and possibly sudden redness in your skin.

What are the common skin conditions faced by people in their 50s?

As you reach your 50s you may find that your skin is becoming crepey. It will be thinner and tend to sag while new wrinkles start to form. Your skin may start to look loose on your face. In your 50s you may see more dullness in your skin and maybe even new facial hair. Your wrinkles and lines will become more pronounced.

What five stages do most older adults experience in their 60s?

When you reach your 60s, the first two layers of skin, the dermis, and the epidermis will become thinner than it was in your 50s and will lose more volume. Your cheeks will look less full and your kin will become drier, itchier, and take on a greater appearance of crepe paper. Your wrinkles will become more pronounced, age spots will increase and bruises will become more obvious. In your 60s your sweat glands become less active so you won’t sweat as much. Also, the body’s ability to heal starts to change in your 60s and you will no longer heal as you did when you were younger.

What happens to your skin in your 70s?

Much of the process that started in your 30s and 40s and became more pronounced in your 50s and 60s will continue into your 70s. It is the procession of life and your skin will become less elastic as less collagen is produced. It will become duller with less new cell development and cell turnover. The fatty tissue under the skin will show greater signs of decreasing, allowing the skin to sag even more. As your sweat glands have slowed, so have the natural production oils that keep the skin soft. Wrinkles and lines, age spots, and skin tags will become more of a part of life as you age.
